When I first started fly fishing again a few years ago, I bought a job lot of flies off ebay. Among what turned out to be a load of old tat there were a few pearls, many of which are my ‘go to’ flies today.
One of the best was a simple black buzzer with a green holographic strip on the head. I probably caught 40-50% of my trout on this fly and was gutted when I got it caught in a tree and lost forever.
Desperate to replace this fly, I decided to tie it myself and found this great pattern; the Grey Boy. My version is shown in the photo above and was responsible for a decent proportion of my fish last year.
