I’ve had my eye on getting some proper waders for a while. I don’t often fish waters that need wading, and when I have its been on a boat, but I tried it at Eyebrook last year with a pair of thigh waders and really enjoyed it. There is something special about fishing in the water.
I had been looking at various options but it was difficult to justify the cost when I might only be wading 2-3 times a year. But then I saw the Airflo Airweld waders on offer at Fishtec. The waders were reduced to £130 and the boots were half price if bought at the same time.
They are quite simple but provide everything you need for a very good price: gravel guard, chest pocket, a belt and the option to wear them as full chest waders or fold them down into waist waders.
I tried them out at the recent World Bank Masters at Elinor which is a perfect venue for wading. The waders held up very well and were extremely comfortable and warm in chilly conditions. There is enough room to allow several layers of warm layers underneath but I think they would work just as well in the summer with less bulk. The wading boots were very comfy even after standing all day and walking around the whole lake during the course of the competition. And, obviously, they did not leak which is a pretty fundamental requirement but it was still pleasing.
I loved being in the water and look forward to trying wading at some more venues this year – I’ve got plans for Draycote and Blagdon if I can get away!
