I’ve been using a satchel-type fishing bag for my river fishing which was made by my talented wife – she has a knack for making bags for herself and a few tweaks made a perfect small fishing bag. However, this has been a bit awkward when wading, so I was on the lookout for something else. A vest works but doesn’t have enough storage for everything for a good day out.
I came across the new Wychwood Gear Trap range and saw a video with Steve Cullen showing off the Short Haul Chest Pack which looked perfect. It has a small backpack with just enough room to store a drink and lunch with enough pockets in the chest pack for all my gear. It also has a loop at the back for a net and two built-in zingers at the front for snips, gink etc.
I tried it out on the river recently for the first time and it works perfectly. Its small and light enough that it doesn’t get in your way when you are fishing but it carries all your gear in easy to reach pockets right in front of you.
