In our quest to become better fly fishermen we created this blog to share information, tips, reviews, etc between ourselves while also being useful for many others starting out in fly fishing.
Last year we decided it might be good to record a bit more information about our fishing trips so that we could look back and see how things change, or if they don’t, or if weather has an effect or what the best times of year are and what flies we were catching on at different venues. When I’m not fishing my day job is a web designer so it made sense to create a web based app that we could both use from anywhere. It was very basic when it started but incredibly useful. Looking back over the last years catch returns highlights so many things. Its also very useful to see what worked this time last year – this has already caught me more fish this year!
So, over time its grown, we’ve added more features and made it easier for us to use and finally we decided that it might be time to let other people use it as well. It free to use and the more people that use it the more useful it will become for everyone. You can see all returns from every venue in the country (if people are adding them) so you can get up-to-date data on whats happening.
Here’s the press release we’ve sent around to a few major publications.
Press Release
Introducing Returns Box, a new website for fly fishermen.
Returns Box is a new website, designed specifically for fly fisherman, which allows them to record their personal catch returns and also see what’s catching, where. Developed by fly fishermen for fly fishermen, this exciting new website can help to increase success by providing unique insights aggregated from fellow anglers across the UK.
Find out:
- Which are the top venues?
- What flies, and colours, are the most successful this month in general or at a specific venue?
- Where in the water are the fish feeding?
- Recall personal catch returns from previous fishing trips!
What’s more, it’s free and easy to use. Register at www.returnsbox.co.uk
My Returns
Returns box allows registered members to log their own personal catch returns, recording information such as fish caught, venue, flies used, fish depth and personal notes. Real time charts offer a quick summary of your personal record, showing your success rate, most successful flies and best venues. By filtering and searching your own records you can delve into the detail to make the most of each and every fishing trip and improve catch rates.
Global Dashboard
By aggregating data from users around the UK, the website offers a unique view of what’s happening across the country. See which venues are performing well and what flies are catching as well as drilling down to specific venues for information to help inform your next fishing trip.
The developers built Returns Box to help them become better fly fishermen and they hope it will help others. It’s brand new and in early development so feedback is encouraged.
