As an early 40th birthday celebration, my wife and I had a couple of days exploring the north-west corner of wales, around Caernarfon. With a day fishing pass (!), I decided to drive across the mountains to Lyn Brenig, one of the larger reservoir fisheries in the area.
Typically for me this year, in the middle of two weeks of lovely weather, I picked a day of consistent, occasionally torrential, rain. Unfortunately, rather than livening things up, there was not a trout to be seen, or caught, even using some traditional welsh wet flies I had tied up last week. However, it is a beautiful place with stunning scenery and good facilities for anglers, so I hope to try again on a better day sometime.
Unfortunately, out of four reservoir trips so far this year (Rutland, Farmour, Draycote & Lyn Brenig) I have just a single trout to show. To be honest, I have been unlucky with the weather and other anglers have struggled on the same days but I really need to do something about this poor record. Beardy Paul and I have a day booked at Bewl Reservoir later in the month, so fingers crossed!
You might have blanked but it looks like a lovely place! I presume that photo wasn’t taken on the day you were there!
